Dishwasher

Detergent (sometimes pods) is under the sink, to the left of the dishwasher.

It gets hot. To avoid melting or deforming plastic, put those items on the top shelf only.

Garbage disposal

Use it sparingly. Septic systems aren’t able to handle what most people think of as typical use. Plate scrapings before loading the dishwasher are all it can manage. Everything else goes in the trash.

Refrigerator (garage)

In summer we often use the garage fridge for drinks and overflow from the kitchen fridge.

Winter temperatures in the garage are too cold for it to run. You’ll notice it’s unplugged with the door open. That prevents mildew and makes getting ready for summer easier.

Refrigerator (kitchen)

The only notable detail is the plastic drawer handles. Please be extra careful — they crack easier than anyone would imagine.

Microwave

It’s in the pantry on the plastic shelf. Once in a while, if it’s stopped before the timer is done, it reads “food” on the display and won’t start. Open the door and close it again. It should resume.

Oven and stovetop

Hot, hot, hot. Commercial-style burners may take a little getting used to.
